Markdown is so common nowadays that even this post is written in a markdown text format, and many there are who want to have a good guide about markdown.

What's Markdown

It is a simple way to markup your writings, created by John Gruber and Aaron Swartz in 2004, and it is widespread now.

Why Markdown

Well, you might wonder why people use markdown instead of clicking on some buttons and adding headings or quotes, etc..., well there are some reasons why markdown is chosen, here are some:

  • Markdown can be used for everything. People use it to create websites, documents, notes, books, presentations, email messages, and technical documentation.

  • Markdown is portable, you can open markdown files with many editors and viewers.

  • Markdown is platform-independent. That means you can write and edit on any os or device

  • Markdown is everywhere. many websites support markdown text format, such as Reddit, Github, Codepen, Tumblr, and even Hashnode.

How it works

Basically, if you have a background in HTML everything will be very clear for you, but if you don't know anything about HTML: Markdown is a lightweight markup language for creating formatted text using a plain-text editor, then convert it to HTML.
